David Petr

SILVER SPRING, MD—The Montgomery County Economic Development Corp. has created the role of president for the organization and recruited David Petr to be the first to fill the role.

Petr joins MCEDC from the Central Florida Development Council, where he was the president and CEO. He will begin his tenure with MCEDC on Sept. 6, 2016.

Petr helped transitioned the Central Florida Development Council from a public/private partnership to a private organization -- skills that no doubt be useful as MCEDC grows into its own new public-private partnership status. Its predecessor organization, the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, was phased out last month per the plan established last summer when the Montgomery County Council voted to privatize most of the economic development agency and turn it into a nonprofit corporation.

MCEDC is funded by public money but will be governed by an 11-member board and CEO, selected by the county executive and confirmed by the council.

Executive search firm DHR International assisted with the search for the first CEO.
