Tree Tops Off Hotel Project on GreenStreet

HOUSTON—Hotel Alessandra will anchor GreenStreet, a 570,000-square-foot mixed-use destination in downtown, featuring three city blocks of premier office, shopping, dining and entertainment options.

HOUSTON—To commemorate the recent topping off of the Hotel Alessandra in downtown, Midway , Valencia Group and Hoar Construction crowned the hotel with a live tree. The 20-story 223-room luxury hotel is set to be complete in mid-2017 and will anchor GreenStreet , a mixed-use shopping and entertainment destination. Conveniently located, with easy access to Discovery Green and its neighboring attractions, GreenStreet is a 570,000-square-foot mixed-use destination located in the heart of downtown, featuring three city blocks of office, shopping, dining and entertainment options, as well as The Lawn, a central open air green space. GreenStreet also is home to III Forks, McCormick & Schmick’s, House of Blues, Lucky Strike and the regional headquarters of energy provider NRG . With a large variety of offerings, visitors, local residents and downtown employees can often be seen dining al fresco on a cool evening or enjoying the destination’s year-round line-up of free events on The Lawn. Nestled within this bustling urban setting is more than 90,000 square feet of collaborative office space with easy access to transit and parking. Approximately 175,000 square feet of elevated concrete slabs were poured in nine months and the hotel development used 11,000 cubic yards of concrete or 1,100 trucks. The hotel contains 13.5 miles of electrical wiring and there will be approximately 128 mile of wire installed by completion. About 4,000 post-tension cables have been installed and 1,300 tons of rebar were used during construction. Midway CEO Jonathan Brinsden tells GlobeSt.com: “The topping out of Hotel Alessandra is an exciting measure of progress. In the coming months, we look forward to celebrating more interior and exterior milestones on the hotel and introducing a higher level of luxury hospitality to downtown.” Houston-based Midway has been a privately owned real estate investment and development firm for more than 48 years. The Midway portfolio of projects completed and/or underway consists of approximately 45 million square feet of properties in 23 states and Northern Mexico ranging from office and industrial facilities, corporate headquarters, mixed-use centers, business and industrial parks, medical facilities, manufacturing facilities, and master-planned resort and residential communities.
