SCOTTSDALE, AZ— SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center is home to a global business community that links technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, and education to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders of the knowledge economy. Plaza Companies is the developer of the project in partnership with the Arizona State University Foundation , the city of Scottsdale and Holualoa Companies . The 42-acre mixed-use development is designed to create an ecology of collaboration and innovation among high-profile technology enterprises and related researchers, advance global business objectives of on-site enterprises, raise Arizona’s profile as a global center of innovation through co-location of ASU’s strategic global partners, and create a unique regional economic and social asset. Mayor Jim Lane , city of Scottsdale, tells GlobeSt.com: “Plaza Companies has led some of the most complex and significant projects in Scottsdale, with Vi at Silverstone and SkySong, the ASU Innovation Center. These projects anchor the city from both the north and the south. The city of Scottsdale prides itself in superb design review and complex zoning oversight. Plaza Companies has excelled with both in their endeavors in the city of Scottsdale and they are highly regarded for their professional and collaborative work with city leadership to develop some of the finest projects in our community.” Construction is humming along at the site, with some structures completed such as buildings one, two and three, and SkySong 4 completion expected before the end of the year. The restaurant/retail building is expected to be completed in 2017, and SkySong 5 and 6 are expected to be completed in 2018. SkySong buildings seven through 11 are expected to be completed by 2022. Regarding specifics within each building: SkySong 1 is a 150,000-square-foot commercial office building which opened in 2008 and has an occupancy near 100%. Its distinguishing features include LEED Silver certification, significant conference space and comfortable outdoor work spaces. SkySong 2 is a 150,000-square-foot commercial office building which opened in 2008 and has an occupancy near 100%. Its distinguishing features include LEED Silver certification and comfortable outdoor work spaces. SkySong 3 is a 145,000-square-foot commercial office building which opened in 2014 and has an occupancy near 100%. Its distinguishing features include a large conference center capable of holding more than 400 people, outdoor work spaces and a bike room. SkySong Scottsdale Apartments have 323 residential apartment units that opened in 2013. SkySong 4 is a 145,000-square-foot commercial office building, with construction near completion and an anticipated opening next month. Its distinguishing features include an open-air lobby to encourage interaction and collaboration, as well as outdoor work space features that include a fire pit and other amenities. SkySong 6 is a 150,000-square-foot commercial office building that is currently in the permitting phase with the city of Scottsdale. Its distinguishing features will include three lobbies designed to direct traffic flow through the building and create collaborative spaces. SkySong 6 will be the first six-story structure on site and has an expected groundbreaking of late 2016. The SkySong restaurant/retail building will include approximately 12,000 square feet of space. It is currently under construction with completion anticipated in late 2016. A 120-room hotel to be developed under the Starwood brand is to be announced and currently in the planning phases. 1951@SkySong is an innovative co-working space at SkySong 1, opening in October. Expansion by existing tenants and new leases have boosted occupancy in the first three buildings to more than 95% capacity. More than 1,500 employees are now on site working for the more than 50 companies housed at SkySong and the ASU SkySong incubator. Some of the tenants currently located at SkySong (not including companies in the ASU SkySong incubator space) are AtomDesign, IO Data, Canon Solutions, Asure, Booker Software, MindBody, Pearson Education, ASU, Groupon, SmartStore/ Loss Prevention, Sky Market Deli, Centurylink, South Scottsdale Healthcare, Ticketmaster, Jobing.com, Avizia, Learnvest, Global Patent Solutions, Yodle, Solugenix, Holualoa, Plaza Companies, Pyxl, Hivewyre/Adhesive, Safari Books Online, ASU Edplus, Theranos, LiveOps and Workiva .
