NEW YORK CITY—Construction of the Staten Island Mall expansion—which will bring new shopping, dining, entertainment and parking options to the center—has begun. The 240,000-square-foot, multi-phase expansion will add new retailers to the list of current tenants and provide significant economic benefits to the Staten Island community with the creation of approximately 1,600 jobs during construction as well as 540 permanent jobs.

“As the leading retail real estate property for Staten Island, we are always focused on evolving to deliver key brands and experiences that our community has come to expect from us,” says James Easley, senior general manager of the Staten Island Mall. “The expansion project would not have come to fruition without the unwavering support of Staten Island officials, starting with the borough president's office and we look forward to catering to our thriving community.”

“The Staten Island Mall's redevelopment is one of several major exciting projects for the community,” adds James Oddo, borough president. “Not only will it bring permanent jobs, more shopping, dining and entertainment experiences to Staten Islanders, but once again puts the Island on the map as a destination.”

The expansion of the Staten Island Mall will be a multi-phased project that will take approximately two years to complete. The project entails the development of a new wing on the Richmond Avenue side of the property that will consist of two new buildings and a three-level parking deck. The expansion will allow for a host of new retailers and restaurants, a 40,000- square-foot Dave & Busters and a new food court with 12 new dining options.

In addition, a large, centrally-located exterior plaza is being created to provide a space for community gatherings and seasonal events.

The expansion is set to open by the fall of 2018 with retailers in the first phase opening as early as spring 2018.
