NEWARK, NJ—2 Gateway Center has added premium co-working space to the office complex in the heart of Newark's Downtown Arts and Business district. The co-working site, called =SPACE Downtown, will offer amenitized, technology-driven workspace and a creative, nurturing environment that its developers say will be both affordable and accessible.

It's a joint venture with Gateway Project Spaces, which was founded in 2012. Gateway Project Spaces is a hub for multidisciplinary creative engagement. Its three-level facility is split between a highly competitive and curated residency program, a project-based gallery in collaboration with Project For Empty Space, and rentable artist studio/work spaces.

“We're thrilled to bring another level of participants to our space,” says Jasmine Wahi, a founder of Gateway Project Spaces. “Gateway Project Spaces is currently the home to over 50 visual and performing artists from the surrounding areas. Developing a larger, diverse group of on-site creative professionals and cultural practitioners will continue to make Newark a destination to work, network and live.”

=SPACE Downtown is on the concourse level of Gateway Project Spaces within 2 Gateway, directly connected to Newark Pennsylvania Station. Gateway Project Spaces is a 30,000 square-foot creative hub that includes a non-profit gallery, additional event spaces, an art supply store and 56 rentable workspaces. The 24/7 facility has carved out a 2,000 square-foot space that will host membership based desk space, creative meeting space and private conference rooms with tech equipment and a design aesthetic to greet users with comfort, convenience and resources.

“The joint venture is an opportunity for = Space and Gateway Project Space to create an ecosystem of creatives of all types with the goal of growing within the city of Newark,” says Medina Citi, creative director, =SPACE.

=SPACE Downtown is aimed at creative professionals, freelancers, writers, techies, startups, small non-profits, commuting students and more.

“This space, part of Newark's growing startup scene, not only adds a new dynamic to the Gateway Project Spaces, but is a great addition to the business community within 2 Gateway,” says Kevin Collins, managing director of C&K Properties, owners of 2 Gateway. “We are excited to welcome =SPACE to the Gateway Center, and we're confident that this blossoming concourse will provide an ideal environment for its creative minds.”
