Modera Mosiac in Fairfax, VA, is one of the finalists for in the Best Mid-Rise category.

WASHINGTON, DC—There's an important change coming this year as the National Association of Home Builders rolls out the 25th anniversary edition of its Pillars of the Industry Awards, and for the third consecutive year, GlobeSt.com serves as official media partner.

That change is the inclusion of Military and Veterans Housing as a category, an important inclusion given the critical nature of the issue. It's a fitting addition as well, since other categories reflect a variety of newsworthy topics, including sustainability and affordable and student housing. In addition, after years of virtual presentations, the awards ceremony itself returns to a live format. The Pillars of the industry Awards celebration will take place on Jan. 10, 2017, at the NAHB International Builders' Show in Orlando. Tickets to this awards presentation can be purchased here.

This Military/Veterans category joins NAHB's traditional categories, all designed to put forth cutting-edge examples of design, construction and management. A sampling of the categories are:

Best Garden Apartment Community;
Best High-Rise Apartment Community (10-plus stories);
Best Condominium Community;
Best Mixed-Use Community;
Best Student Housing Rental Apartment Community;
Best Adaptive Reuse (from non-residential product to rental apartments);
Best Example of Green Building Concepts;
Best Community Amenities;
Best Acquisition/Rehabilitation of an Affordable Apartment Community
Best Overall Leasing or Sales Campaign for a Multifamily Community; and
Multifamily Community of the Year

In addition, NAHB will name the 2016 Multifamily Development Firm of the Year, 2016 Property Management Company of the Year and 2016 Marketing Manager of the Year.
