NEW YORK CITY—Building owner Edison Properties has signed a new 50,000-square-foot lease with Cinemex at 400 E. 62nd St. on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The building is a former movie theater that closed in 2013.
CBRE Group's retail group SVP Michael Kadosh and associate Jesse Wolff represented Edison in the long-term lease for six floors of the building. Jeff Roseman and Mark Frankel of Newmark represented Cinemex in the transaction.
Started in Mexico in the 1990s, the occupier is a cineplex company that has built a nationally branded chain. It is slated to open its first location in the US this year, in downtown Miami, FL.
“We looked carefully for the right tenant to fill this space and are excited about the quality product they plan to deliver to this area,” says Lenny Lazzarino, VP of leasing, Edison Properties.
“Cinemex is the perfect tenant to satisfy the demand for a luxury movie theater serving the discerning Upper East Side customer,” adds Kadosh. “With reserved seating and dining, Cinemex means the days of waiting on a long line to get into a movie are over.”
