The Thanksgiving weekend began with Black Friday and concluded yesterday on Cyber Monday. For the fifth year in a row, online sales outstripped brick and mortar sales, and the trend is likely to continue producing more dark clouds for mall owners and retailers who are tethered to real estate.

This year also produced an important inflection point. Online sales tipped to mobile devices. For example, Walmart reported that 60% of Black Friday online orders came through mobile devices, up 50% over last year. The sophistication of mobile apps coupled with increasingly powerful hand-held devices as produced a sea change that is only in the second inning. This is an amazing trend so stay tuned!
