MIAMI—Steven Bronstein has returned to Cushman & Wakefield. The 30-year commercial real estate veteran—and pioneer of the firm's New York retail division will serve as senior director of Retail & Multi-Use Brokerage in the firm's Miami office.
During the 1980s, Bronstein was a top producer nationally. He led accounts of Brentano's Victoria Station, BMW of North America, Saks Fifth Avenue and other prominent New York retailers. That work paved the way for CushWake's New York retail division, in which he served as office and director.
“Steven, as the original founder of Cushman & Wakefield's New York retail practice, bridged the national and international retail gap, bringing the firm on par with its competitors,” Larry Richey, managing principal and Florida Market Leader, tells GlobeSt.com. “He will add tremendous value to Cushman & Wakefield's retail and multi-use operations in Florida as well as representing global retail tenants.”
Bronstein has also represented world-famous restaurants and retailers like Eileen Fisher and Jean Louis David in their flagship locations as well as Ben Benson's Steak House, Laura Ashley and The Gap. He procured Harry Belafonte's Manhattan music studios, secured more than 500,000 square feet of closed-circuit viewing space for Muhammad Ali's final fight and represented several Caribbean countries in their efforts to grow tourism.
Bronstein launched his career in Studley's New York office, where he immediately established himself as a strong producer with a retail and office client list that included Shun Lee, a New York restaurant landmark; Catalytic Construction/ Air Products; and The Washington Post. He also has operated independently, serving clients such as Aetna Insurance and spearheading Hard Rock Café's entrance into the US market, a deal that ultimately brought him to Cushman & Wakefield.
Bronstein has been active outside the brokerage community during his 30-plus year career. During the Carter administration, he helped pioneer the residential solar and energy efficiency movement in upstate New York. He also developed and operated an award-winning Tuscan restaurant in Florida and has lectured at major universities such as New York University and the Culinary Center of America. He assisted Florida Gulf Coast University in developing its culinary program and served on the board of Hawaii Farmer's Union United, a national educational co-operative.
Beyond all this, Bronstein authored and shepherded a bill through the Hawaii State Legislature allowing the land lease of underutilized school land, with proceeds earmarked back to schools. Bronstein also authored a farm-to-table business plan for the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Culinary School, which ultimately lead to the university's development and funding of a farm-to-table program.
