When everyone woke up on November 9th to learn that Donald Trump was elected our next President, there were thousands upon thousands of relatively well-to-do people who left their luxury Trump apartment buildings feeling a bit differently about the branding of their residence. The more it sunk in, the more angry many apartment owners and tenants became with their buildings branded Trump. The interesting thing is that Trump buildings are everywhere, nowhere more prominent than New York City.
Well, it was announced by Equity Residential Properties, who owns tens of thousands of apartments, is removing Trump branding Trump from three high-rise apartments in NYC, and I suspect that more will follow. It's an interesting situation that highlights the power of branding, and Trump has been a master at the game. Never before has politics impacted the real estate industry as much as it will be under the Trump administration.
It's going to be interesting to watch, regardless of what side of the aisle you sit on.
