500 L'Enfant Plaza

WASHINGTON, DC–The Urban Institute is taking 121,000-square feet at the 12-story, 215,000-square foot class A office building that JBG Cos. is developing at 500 L'Enfant Plaza.

Vertical construction on the site is set to start this quarter and the Urban Institute will move into the top six floors of the building sometime in 2019.

The building, which is being built to LEED Gold standards, was designed by ZGF Architects LLP. It will have a conference center with a broadcast auditorium, a rooftop deck and catering kitchen for events.

“Urban Institute has chosen to remain in the District of Columbia, our home since our founding in 1968, because we are committed to this dynamic city and see an exciting future here,” Urban Institute President Sarah Rosen Wartell said in a prepared statement.

The Urban Institute has been located at 2100 M St., NW for some 50 years.

Bruce McNair and Laura Eshelman of Avison Young represented Urban Institute.

500 L'Enfant will have indoor access to more than 50 shops and restaurants at L'Enfant Plaza, as well as to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station, a hub for five of the six Metro lines.
