NEW YORK CITY—Real estate law firm Belkin Burden Wenig & Goldman has announced the promotions of Lisa Gallaudet and Christina Simanca-Proctor to partner, effective January 1, 2017.
Formerly associates, both Gallaudet and Simanca-Proctor practice in the litigation department. They are based in the firm's Midtown office here, on Madison Avenue.
“We are delighted to welcome Lisa and Christina as partners to the firm,” says Jeffrey Goldman, founding partner and co-head of BBWG's Litigation Department, who added that as talented litigators they bring great intelligence and dedication to both the firm and its clients.
He continues, “A rising star, Lisa joined BBWG six years ago and her litigation career has flourished. Christina has a proven track record in litigating a wide variety of real estate industry disputes. We are very pleased to recognize their respective outstanding efforts with these promotions.”
Gallaudet advises landlords from the purchase of an interim multiple dwelling building through the legalization process, including development and conversion, litigation and removal from the Loft Board's jurisdiction.
In addition, she handles a variety of commercial tenant litigation and represents condominium boards and shareholders in actions commenced in New York Supreme Court.
Gallaudet also does pro-bono work for the Kids In Need Of Defense program, representing minor undocumented immigrants seeking asylum and other protections from deportation.
Prior to joining, she was assistant corporation counsel in the commercial and real estate litigation division at the NYC Law Department, Office of the Corporation Counsel.
During Gallaudet's tenure there, she represented various city agencies in commercial, contract, construction and real estate disputes in Civil and Supreme Court as well as mediation.
Simanca-Proctor represents REITs and cooperative corporations in summary proceedings as well as condominium boards in actions commenced in New York State Supreme Court. She has successfully defended claims made by the City of New York relating to short term transient use/illegal hotel occupancy.
Simanca-Proctor also is an arbitrator for the Association of Small Claims Arbitrators of the Civil Court, City of New York. Prior to joining BBWG, she was an associate at Rosenberg & Estis.
