Tishman Speyer's rendering of 2050 M St.

WASHINGTON, DC–As it turns out, the rumor mill was accurate: Tishman Speyer has signed on Paul Hastings for the 11-story, 364,000-square foot trophy office building it is building at 2050 M St., NW. The law firm is taking 97,000-square feet, including the top three floors, in a 16-year lease.

The plans for the project, designed by architect Joshua Prince-Ramus of REX, were revealed last year. They feature a unique floor-to-ceiling curved glass curtain wall with no vertical mullions. The effect, as viewed from the outside, is similar to a kaleidoscope.

The site itself consists of the CBS News headquarters at 2020 M St., NW, which Tishman acquired for $30.5 million to redevelop into a new headquarters for the media company, and 2030 M St., NW, which Tishman acquired for $49 million from another buyer. Both of these buildings are being razed to the ground to make way for 2050 M St.

Last month GlobeSt.com reported that Tishman Speyer sold a 75% or so stake in the project for about $57.5 million.

In August of 2016, the Washington Business Journal reported that sources told it that international law firm Paul Hastings LLP has signed a letter of intent to lease roughly 100,000 square feet in the trophy project.
