NORTH EAST, MD–Amazon has announced it plans to open a third facility in Maryland — a 1.2 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Principio Business Park. The center will support Amazon's customer fulfillment. Amazon already operates two Baltimore fulfillment and sortation centers.
“Maryland has an incredible workforce, and we are so happy to have this opportunity to expand in the state to serve customers,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon's vice president of North America operations, in a prepared statement.
For this investment, Amazon is taking space in Principio Commerce Center I, a building that Trammell Crow Co. and Diamond Realty Investments began developing last year after acquiring 100 acres in the business park. When the two developers made the announcement in May of 2016, they pointed to the advantages of the I-95 North submarket for a logistics facility in general and Principio Commerce Center I's adjacency to Route 40.
Principio Commerce Center I is part of the 6 million square foot master-planned Principio Business Park, already home to Restoration Hardware and General Electric.
As part of the announcement last year, TCC and Diamond Realty said that Principio Commerce Center I's leasing was being handled by Dave Dannenfelser of JLL and Mike Zerbe of Colliers International. Conewago was the project's general contractor and KSS Architects provided design services. PCCP provided a construction loan to the joint venture. The building is expected to deliver this Spring.
