Katy Welsh as senior vice president of Retail Services covering Colliers' South Florida region.

MIAMI—Colliers International South Florida is expanding its retail division in South Florida. The firm just hired Katy Welsh as senior vice president of Retail Services covering the South Florida region.

Welsh has more than 30 years of commercial real estate experience leasing and marketing shopping centers. This is a strategic hire, given Colliers' quest to expand its expertise in order to take a truly 360-degree approach to serving retail from urban, high street, institutional and tenant representation retail. (Read about a retail trend fewer are discussing.)

“The fundamentals of South Florida's retail market remain strong,” Welsh tells GlobeSt.com. “E-commerce is changing the demand for retail space. Increasingly, brick-and-mortar is helping retailers boost their online sales and landlords are adapting to the new normal.”

Welsh comes to Colliers from Konover South. There she was responsible for all aspects of leasing and marketing company and third-party shopping centers, including business development, deal analysis, annual budgeting, and creating recommendations for property improvement to the third-party owners. Lowes Home Improvement Center located at Plaza at Davie, which redeveloped the shopping center, are among her most notable recent deals.

Prior to her stint at Konover, Welsh served as broker-president of Hunter Real Estate Brokerage from 2008-2014 and director of Real Estate for Kimco Realty from 2003-2008. She has also held retail leasing positions with the likes of Equity One/IRT Property Company, NAI/Merin Hunter Codman, Concord Assets Group and Millennium III Real Estate Corp.

Welsh has been a prominent figure for ICSC, the trade organization for the international shopping center industry. She is the 2017 ICSC Florida Conference Committee Chair and has held numerous positions as chair or co-chair of the county chapters in years past. She was also the past Chair of the South Florida IDEX.

Welsh holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Auburn University. She has earned the designations of Senior Certified Leasing Specialist and Certified Retail Property Executive. Want more retail insights from industry giants? Read my recent column.
