NEW YORK CITY—Alexandria Real Estate Equities has selected the first members of the Alexandria LaunchLabs program, which provides 15,000 square feet of wet laboratory and office co-working space.
The inaugural class of eight firms—all life sciences start-ups—will have access to conference, event and meeting space; two farm-to-table restaurants and a fitness center.
Located at the Alexandria Center for Life Science, on the 15th floor of the West tower, LaunchLabs also provides mentorship and networking programs, professional seminars and access to early-stage funding. It will begin hosting scientists when it open its doors to member companies this spring.
Developer Alexandria Real Estate Equities' East Side campus now has two towers encompassing approximately 730,000 square feet—the 320,000 square foot East tower and 410,000 square foot West tower. The campus has attracted pharmaceutical tenants such as Roche Holding AG, Eli Lilly & Company, and one of Pfizer's Centers for Therapeutic Innovation.
Among the first eight companies, a spokesman tells GlobeSt.com, will be the following eight firms: Beagle Bioscience, an early-stage drug discovery company; Chimeron Bio, a personalized cancer gene therapy company; Sonify Biosciences, a medical device company using low intensity ultrasound to treat skin cancers and other superficial tumors and Torch Biosciences, a company developing biologically-based biomarkers for Autism and other disorders of the central nervous system.
“Alexandria has dedicated significant human and strategic risk capital to building the NYC life science cluster,” says Jenna Foger, senior principal of science and technology at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, an urban office REIT focused on collaborative life science and technology campuses in AAA innovation cluster locations,
She continues, “Now, extending this commitment through Alexandria LaunchLabs, we will provide all of the resources necessary to catalyze the next generation of homegrown life science companies, which are critical to the evolution and success of the city's life science community.”
