Midtown Atlanta

ATLANTA—Winter Construction broke ground on a new hotel in Midtown Atlanta. The Marriot hotel is dual branded as AC Hotel and Moxy Hotel.

Designed for Millennials and located on 14th Street between Peachtree Street and West Peachtree Street, the Moxy will be Marriott's new brand debut in Georgia. Noble Investment Group is the developer.

Noble's Carlos Asensio says the new hotel will add personality to the Midtown neighborhood: “The AC and Moxy brands will uniquely satisfy the needs of the creative and innovative people who are making Midtown Atlanta great.”

The American Planning Association recently named the Midtown neighborhood one of its “Great Places In America” for demonstrating exceptional character, quality, and planning. Brent Reid, Winter Construction's CEO, called Midtown Atlanta “an innovative and culturally important place in our city.”.

The Moxy will include 155 rooms, and the AC Hotel will include 133 rooms. The building's total area will be 266,000 square feet, including several levels of parking.

Cooper Carry is the architect for the project. Winter and Cooper Carry collaborated on the AC Hotel Buckhead that opened last year next to Phipps Plaza.

Atlanta has witnessed a strong uptick in revenue per available hotel room in recent years. That, in turn, is driving an increase in new development, CBRE reports. Hotel construction is concentrated in specific submarkets, such as Interstate 85 North, Chamblee, Central Perimeter, Midtown and Interstate 85 South near the airport.

In the next few years, CBRE reports, Downtown Atlanta's hotel construction should remain active. Currently, there are over 1,400 new hotel rooms in the development pipeline. CBRE predicts demand should increase downtown as the city secures major sporting events like the Super Bowl in 2019 and the College Football Playoff National Championship game in 2018.
