NEW YORK CITY—Julia Geykhman has rejoined Venable's real estate practice as counsel here.
Most recently counsel at Thompson & Knight, the attorney served as an associate at Venable from 2014 to 2015, after starting her career at Sullivan & Cromwell. Geykhman represents a diverse set of clients, including property developers, equity investors, operators, purchasers, sellers, lenders, and borrowers in all aspects of transactional commercial real estate.
This includes all types of financing for borrowers and lenders at all levels of the capital stack, including mezzanine, mortgage, CMBS, and participations; acquisitions and dispositions of real estate assets and interests; formation of joint ventures, preferred equity arrangements, and tenant-in-common structures; real estate investments; commercial leasing; real estate fund formation and fund-raising; and restructurings and workouts related to all types of real estate assets throughout the United States and abroad.
At Venable, Geykhman rejoins a national team of real estate attorneys advising clients here and beyond in all aspects of real estate law. In the past year, the New York office has added Ross Honig, a real estate finance partner, and Steven Weinberger, a leasing counsel.
“This is a true homecoming for Julia, and we're thrilled to welcome her back to the firm,” says Peter Koffler, chair of Venable's New York real estate group and vice chair of the firm's national practice. “As an associate, she quickly caught our attention as a rising star, and we wanted to make every effort possible to bring her back into the practice. Not only does she have a well-rounded background, handling asset sales, and purchases, leases, joint ventures, and finance transactions; she brings a natural ability for client service and creativity to every facet of her work. She is an integral part of our continued growth.”
Adds Matthew McLaughlin, partner-in-charge of Venable's office here, “Our real estate practice has been central to our growth in New York, and Julia's return will be a great benefit to the group and our clients. We look forward to welcoming her back into the mix and expect great things from her in the future.”
“I'm very excited to be returning to Venable and reengaging with everyone in the Real Estate practice and across the firm,” says Geykhman. “I learned a lot from this dynamic group during my time as an associate, and I couldn't pass up the chance to work with some of the best in the industry again when the opportunity arose.”
She continues, “Not only does the firm provide a deep bench of talent and a commitment to continuing to grow its practice nationally; it provides an opportunity for me personally to broaden my practice.”
