NEW YORK CITY—New York City has begun the process of securing a food retailer and manufacturing concern to take over one of the buildings at Mayor Bill de Blasio's future “Made in NY Campus” in Sunset Park in Brooklyn.

The New York City Economic Development Corp. has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest for the lease and operation of a 7,500-square-foot currently vacant building for food retail and food manufacturing uses at Bush Terminal—the future home of the Made in NY Campus, a planned campus of garment manufacturing, film/television production, and other light manufacturing operations.

“The Made in NY Campus will be the city's newest hub for creative manufacturing and production and will further our efforts to create 100,000 good jobs over the next 10 years,” says NYCEDC president and CEO James Patchett. “We're thrilled to be moving forward and inviting proposals for new food options, which will add to the vibrancy of the campus and make it an even bigger asset to the Sunset Park community.”

Mayor de Blasio announced this past February a $136-million commitment to transform a group of underutilized buildings at Bush Terminal in Sunset Park into the Made in New York Campus. At full build-out the campus is expected to support more than 1,500 permanent jobs in manufacturing and film and television production. The construction of the modern garment manufacturing space, sound stages, as well as other campus improvements are expected to create more than 800 construction jobs. The campus is expected to open in 2020.
