WASHINGTON, DC–The White House has nominated Pam Patenaude as deputy secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

She is currently the president of the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for Housing America's Families and former director of housing policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Her CV also includes two stints at HUD under two separate administration. For that reason, along with her “extensive knowledge of housing issues and dedicated service to this department under two previous administrations”… she is “an excellent choice for the position of Deputy Secretary,” HUD Secretary Ben Carson tweeted after her nomination was announced.

Most recently at HUD, she led the department's field operations and served as Assistant Secretary for the Office of Community Planning and Development.

The real estate community has expressed support with her nomination; indeed many have worked with her on various issues over the years, such as David Stevens, CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association.

He said Patenaude will help support the secretary and also address the critical issues ahead for HUD. “She has a well-informed understanding of the agency, and essential technical knowledge of the real-estate finance industry,” according to Stevens' statement.

The National Association of Realtors weighed in too with similar sentiments. “Pam is an ideal candidate for the position; she understands the issues that impact the industry and our Realtor members,” NAR President William Brown, said in a prepared statement.

“We encourage the Senate to move quickly and confirm her nomination.”
