MIAMI—Biscayne Beach is the latest newly-constructed condominium building to deliver in the fast-growing East Edgewater enclave. The area has come alive in recent years as one of Miami's most in-demand districts for luxury high-rise living. All told, more than a dozen new residential towers are currently under construction in Edgewater.
Two Roads' is now marketing its newest East Edgewater project, Elysee Miami, which is set to rise just a few blocks away along Biscayne Bay. The 57-story boutique-style tower will be home to 100 half-floor and full-floor residences upon its completion in 2019.
GlobeSt.com caught up with Two Roads Development developer Taylor Collins to discuss celebrity designers and Baywalk's potential impact on the Edgewater area in part two of this exclusive interview You can still read part one:
GlobeSt.com: You brought on celebrity designer and former TV star Thom Filicia to design Biscayne Beach's common areas and interior spaces. What was it like working with him? Do you have a favorite space that he designed?
Collins: Thom Filicia really understood our vision for Biscayne Beach and turned it into something real and extraordinary. He gave the common areas a sophisticated beach-meets-city-meets-Miami feel—his classic style really radiates throughout the entire building.
I think one of the most unique elements about this project was that we created this massive man-made “beach” for our residents. The bottom floor at Biscayne Beach is completely dedicated to the beach club. We have cabanas, beach-style amenities and an infinity-edge pool that we raised up about six feet so when you're looking out onto the bay, you don't see anything except the water.
That's really given us our own identity in the market. We “brought the beach to the city.” At Biscayne Beach, you have all the amenities of living on the beach in Miami without the costs that come along with it. (Do you agree with these two developer predictions?)
GlobeSt.com: We've been hearing about the development of a new Baywalk that will run along the perimeter of Biscayne Bay from Downtown-Brickell all the way to Edgewater. How do you think it will impact the neighborhood?
Collins: I completely support the Baywalk. I think it will be a much-needed transportation alternative, resident amenity, tourism draw and economic driver.
By creating a publicly accessible and pedestrian-friendly waterfront, Edgewater residents would be connected to various neighboring attractions, parks, cultural institutions, mass transit stations and downtown businesses. The Baywalk would greatly benefit the community and create a sense of neighborhood by bringing people together and making them less dependent on their cars.
