MULLICA HILL, NJ—Skanska USA has begun work on a new Inspira Health Network hospital building in Mullica Hill, NJ.
It's the second major hospital project Skanska USA has started in the Delaware Valley in the last year. Skanska began construction on the Women and Children's Health Building for Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE, in 2016.
The new Inspira Health Network Medical Center is being built using the Integrated Project Delivery approach, which brings together the client, designer and the builder to align stakeholders and streamline the execution of the project. The new medical center will be Skanska USA's largest IPD project to date in North America. The project will bring approximately 400 local full time jobs to the construction site.
With its partners Array Architects and Leach Wallace Associates, Skanska USA is constructing a five-story hospital building with 204 beds. The main tower consists of operating rooms, an emergency department, imaging suites, as well as administrative, dining and support services. The project also includes a new central utility plant, which will provide electrical power, heating/hot water and chilled water to the new hospital.
“Skanska's extensive healthcare experience and innovative construction and delivery models enable clients like Inspira to expand their facilities and offerings to provide superior service to its patients,” says Skanska USA executive vice president and general manager Ed Szwarc. “Skanska, along with our partners Array Architects and Leach Wallace Associates, are committed to building the highest quality health centers to meet the growing needs of Gloucester County residents.”
Inspira purchased 100 acres of the current site from Rowan University in 2016, with the vision of creating a modern medical center in the heart of Gloucester County that offers residents convenient access to a higher level of quality health care.
“The construction of a new medical center is an extraordinarily complex undertaking. We chose to partner with Skanska because we knew they would bring the necessary expertise and experience to this project,” says John A. DiAngelo, president and CEO, Inspira Health Network.
Construction is scheduled to be complete by December 2019.
