WASHINGTON, DC–CBRE has lost a number of its capital markets and sales people to rival firms over the last few weeks.

Most recently Institutional Property Advisors Capital Markets announced it has snapped up Erik Binkowski, who joined the firm a few weeks ago as a senior director in the Washington, DC office.

Cushman & Wakefield also just announced that David Dorros, Sean Hayes and Chris McGlone joined to lead the National Loan and Portfolio Sale Advisory group.

The market is very competitive about talent right now, Bryn Merrey, senior vice president/division manager of IPA Capital Markets' Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern offices, tells GlobeSt.com.

These moves are about individuals' career trajectories and company-specific changes, he says.

Binkowski Generates Deals Right Away

For example, Binkowski's focus is leased investments and some niche property types, Merrey says. “Erik's expertise adds a lot of value to clients in those categories, in contrast to the multifamily sector, for example, where basically you simply go to one of the GSEs and structure the deal.”

IPA Capital Markets is also growing beyond its category of private client sales to focus on larger deals of $20 million to $50 million, Merrey says. “Erik also specializes in larger deals in retail and office, which will help us immensely.”

In fact, he says, since Binkowski has joined, the company has an additional eight to ten deals under application.

“Some are refinancings, some he has generated already, some are referrals and some are sales that he helped close.”

Who's Who

Before joining IPA Capital Markets, Binkowski served for three years as vice president of CBRE's Debt & Structured Finance Group in Washington, DC. He began his career at Goldman Sachs and held similar positions at The Carlyle Group, HFF, Spaulding & Slye and Studley.

Dorros is joining C&W as vice chairman. He is returning after a 14-year stint with CBRE. During his tenure with CBRE, Dorros created the National Loan & Portfolio Sales Group.

Hayes is joining C&W as managing director. He spent seven years with CBRE's National Loan & Portfolio Sales Group, three years in FBR Capital Markets Investment Banking Group and five years as vice president with Merrill Lynch.

McGlone is also joining C&W as a managing director. He spent more than four years with CBRE's National Loan & Portfolio Sales Advisory Group. Prior to that, McGlone spent seven years as a vice president with Capmark Finance and a combined six years with a Wells Fargo's CMBS unit and Zions Bancorp.
