CHICAGO—The city's downtown continues to be a big draw for high-tech firms. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Downers Grove, IL-based Microsystems just announced this week that the company will relocate its global headquarters to Riverside Plaza, 300 S. Riverside Plaza.

Company officials said the West Loop location will be more convenient for employees and facilitate better client service through its proximity to major business events, conferences, client offices, cultural centers and transportation. The company expects to add nearly 100 new jobs by the end of 2018.

“Chicago's talent and tech ecosystem give leading companies, such as Microsystems, the tools they need to thrive in the global economy,” Mayor Emanuel said. “I'm proud to welcome Microsystems to its new Chicago location and look forward to the insights, innovation and growth they'll continue to bring to our thriving technology community.”

The move is also a needed boost for 300 S. Riverside Plaza. The 23-story, 1.1 million square foot tower lost its anchor tenant last fall when J.P. Morgan Chase decided to vacate 480,000 square feet as part of a consolidation.

Other tech firms have also decided to make a home at 300 S. Riverside. A few weeks ago, 1WorldSync, a global content exchange network, moved into 22,247 square feet on the 14th floor. And in 2014, Newark element14, an electronics and engineering firm, moved its more than 300 employees from Ravenswood on the North Side to a 65,000 square foot space on the 22nd and 23rd floors.

Founded in 1995, Microsystems provides document authoring, editing, formatting, proofreading and metadata scrubbing software for the legal and life sciences industries.

“Our team is looking forward to getting closer to the heart of the city, to our customers and becoming more immersed in the thriving Chicago technology, legal, medical and business communities,” said Avaneesh Marwaha, president of Microsystems.
