The Outlets at Tejon in Arvin, CA, is enjoying rapid growth during an admittedly challenging period for many retailers. So says Hugh McMahon IV, EVP for Commercial and Industrial Real Estate at Tejon Ranch Co.

McMahon recently chatted with GlobeSt.com about all things retail and provided an update on what is in the works at the facility. “We have several exciting new additions to our Center in the works.” This month, for example, they added Express, a nationally recognized brand focusing on men's and women's fashion. “We expect to execute leases with several more exciting retail offerings over the next couple of months.”

According to McMahon, “Retail is an ever-evolving segment that has ebbs and flows.” Those that innovate and stay agile in meeting the desires of their customers will continue to succeed, including offering shoppers a more enhanced experience, such as using social media, contests, and games.”

He adds that “New technology, including the use of apps, and deals and promotions on social media platforms, will also continue to help drive sales and gain customers.”

The Outlets at Tejon is optimistic about where retail is headed overall. “In pursuit of accelerated growth, we've made significant capital improvements over the past year in response to the needs of our customers, including attractive new shade canopies that cover breezeways, energy-efficient fans so shoppers can browse shops in comfort, rain or shine, and a new play area and climbable tower structure for kids.”

As for growth, he tells GlobeSt.com that they are seeing strong growth year over year in terms of sales and traffic. “We've had an 8% increase in vehicle traffic over the prior year, a 7% increase in overall sales over the prior year, and a 10 percent increase in core store sales over the prior year.”
