Women of Influence

SAN FRANCISCO—The 2017 Northern California women of influence awards luncheon held Wednesday honored female professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the Northern California commercial real estate industry—brokers, builders, designers, developers, lawyers, lenders and owners. The group's accomplishments and their efforts to advance the role of women in commercial real estate were honored held at the Intercontinental Hotel at 888 Howard.

Winners were recognized for their achievements for the past two years. The event is held every two years and was last held in 2015. Influential women were also honored in 2013, 2011 and 2009 for a total of five award celebrations.

The event opened with a Q&A with Hall of Fame members Carla Boragno, Shelley Doran and Jan Lindenthal, moderated by Kristina Vinson. Other Hall of Fame members are Margo Bradish and Patricia Curtin.

The women discussed how they influence others, with the responses varying from paying it forward, earning respect, making peace with one's inner self, learning to say no, staying connected to both careers and networks, and accepting the zigs and zags outside of the comfort zone and thriving despite them.

With regard to finding balance between work and personal life, the women said they routinely take breaks from work to make time for family and exercise. Others said they give back to the community, create opportunities for the next generation to serve on board seats, and inspire young girls to be interested in science, technology, engineering and math. In addition, they said it is important for women to ask for what they want, turn off the inner critic switch, be bold, be courageous and take risks.

Other similar advice and words of wisdom were given by the honorees who each provided a 30-second snippet to the audience. This year's honorees were Tiffany Bohee, Mary Davidge, Jodi Fedor, Amanda Gillespie, Angela Kleiman, Eileen Kong, Tracy Murphy, Sandi Nichols, Caroline Quick, Jennifer Raike, Sandy Reek, Michelle Morcos Smith, Ani Vartanian Boladian, Jennifer Vergara and Tay Via.
