Ed Sachse

Kennedy Wilson Properties has named Ed Sachse as president of the commercial brokerage and property management divisions. Sachse has served as EVP since 2010, and he plans to look at ways to expand as well as changes to operations. We sat down with Sachse to discuss his new role at the firm and get his perspective on the marketplace and brokerage today.

GlobeSt.com: You have been with the company for several years Why are you excited to step into this new leadership role?

Ed Sachse: It is an honor to step into the position as president of Kennedy Wilson Properties. My predecessor did a great job of building a team across the country, and it is my job now to take that group to the next level. We have incredible leaders, and I am stepping into a well-oiled machine.

GlobeSt.com: Can we expect any changes in the operations or strategy of the company as a result of this change in leadership?

Sachse: I am definitely looking at making changes in how we operate our business as well as how we present our business in the marketplace. Kennedy Wilson is a large real estate investment company, and as the services division, we have the opportunity to work with institutions from across the United States. We have excellent relationships, and we are presenting our services to other companies that we do business with in other levels of the company. We have incredible team members with deep experience.

GlobeSt.com: This is an interesting time to be taking over. How have you seen the brokerage business change this year?

Sachse: Although there is a lot of talk about the lower volume of transactions in 2017, we have found that a lot of our clients are in needs of our services. We are good at transaction engineering and we are finding ourselves doing more complicated transactions as it relates to development sites or repositions. We are really looking to maximize value for our sellers and pointing out the value for the buyers in the properties that we sell. We have an excellent team in that respect.

GlobeSt.com: As transactions become more complicated, how is your team adjusting?

Ed Sachse: It is important to have experienced agents that can address challenging situations, but there are so many young people in our business today that are highly educated and highly motivated and that want to learn. Our business takes a team to complete a transaction, so it is often that there are several people involved in a transaction. There is room for all different types of talents on a negotiation team. I am a believer in brokerage teams.

GlobeSt.com: What is your view of the market today?

Sachse: We are certainly seeing a change in the retail marketplace, but I still have confidence in retail, really because retail is all about communities. Retailers want to be close to their customers and want to be part of a community. The retailers that do connect with their communities are the ones that are going to be successful. In addition, they need to connect technology to their business. I am also a big believer in merging ecommerce and brick-and-mortar together. We see some examples of that in the marketplace today with successful companies like Nike and Warb Parker. These companies are really the future of retail.
