Cousins Properties Expands Charlotte Footprint with $329M Acquisition

CHICAGO—As reported in GlobeSt.com, Related Midwest officials say the University of Illinois System plans to create a $1.2 billion public-private research and innovation center known as the Discovery Partners Institute at The 78, a mixed-use, master-planned development planned by Related for the Near South Side.
The site could still become the location of Amazon’s HQ2. How that possibility will impact these plans remains to be seen, but company officials consider the university’s decision a key component in making the venture work. It’s also an excellent example of how “placemaking” has become the watchword in mixed-use development.
