WASHINGTON, DC–Colliers International Group has tapped Matthew Johnston to join its Government Solutions group as a senior vice president. Prior to joining Colliers, Johnston managed government real estate transactions with Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer. He represented clients in dealings with the General Services Administration and other federal agencies, including leases, acquisitions and dispositions, and property exchanges.

“For last ten years I was an attorney and did the full spectrum of transactions in this area,” Johnston tells GlobeSt.com.

“The intersection between private commercial real estate and the government world is fascinating and my goal is to help clients navigate the gauntlet of regulations, politics and policy that aren't present in real estate generally,” he says.

Johnston's hire is part of a larger strategy to diversify the services that the Government Solutions team now provides, Regional Managing Director and Market Leader David Parker tells GlobeSt.com. The group is expanding into investment sales more aggressively, Parker says, especially buildings already leased to the federal government. It also will expand into state and municipal markets, helping clients evaluate opportunities and risks there.

Currently the group numbers seven team members and by the end of 2018 Parker said it could well have increased to ten or so.
