NEW YORK CITY— Laidlaw & Company (UK) Ltd. is staying in Midtown, moving its headquarters just a couple of blocks down the street. SL Green Realty, New York City's largest commercial property owner, signed a 10-year lease with the global investment banking and securities brokerage firm, for 20,987 square feet of office space at 521 Fifth Ave.
Laidlaw will occupy the entire 12th floor of the 39-story building. Originally built in 1928 and designed by architects Shreve, Lamb & Harmon Associates, the property is also known as the Lefcourt National Building. The 490,000 square-foot structure is on Fifth Avenue, between 43rd and 44th streets. SL Green Realty notes that the property has been fully redeveloped.
Other office tenants include ChinaTrust Commercial Bank, McGraw Communications and Financial Guaranty Insurance Company. Urban Outfitters and Equinox fitness club are leasing ground-floor retail space.
Laidlaw plans to move from their current building at 547 Fifth Ave., located between 45th and 46th streets, during the second quarter of 2018.
SL Green was represented by Cushman & Wakefield's Tara Stacom, Barry Zeller, Justin Royce and Pierce Hance. The Colliers International team of Jonathan Plotkin and Tim Pond were retained by Laidlaw.
