VIRGINIA BEACH, VA–Virginia secured two new data center projects in recent days in separate transactions.
In one deal, locally-based Globalinx Data Centers announced at an industry event a new, three-phased data center campus here. In the other transaction Compass Datacenters received approval from Loudoun County to establish the company's first data center campus in Northern Virginia.
Phase I of Globalinx's data center campus will be located in the Corporate Landing Business Park at 1632 Corporate Landing Pkwy. The facility is a 10,750-square foot facility built upon a private 11.5-acre campus. Once Phase II is completed, the Globalinx Data Center Virginia Beach campus will encompass more than 150,000 square feet of data center space.
Greg Twitt, founder and president of Globalinx emphasizes the incentives the Commonwealth and local jurisdictions offers data center investors. “Virginia Beach offers some of the most attractive incentives for data centers in the country,” he says in a prepared statement. “The appeal of competitive tax rates and local incentives combined with robust power capabilities at truly reasonable rates is amplified by access to two of the most modern subsea cable systems ever to be built.”
Compass Datacenters' project is zoned for up to 750,000 square feet of data center facilities aimed at supporting customers with operations seeking data center infrastructure in the Washington, DC area. Compass Datacenters will begin site work construction on the project next month.
The project was approved after collaboration between Compass Datacenters and Loudoun County to ensure that environmentally-sensitive land next to the project would be protected. “I'm proud of how responsive my team has been to the requests of the County and feedback from residents who rightfully want to protect a place they love,” said Chris Curtis, SVP of Development & Acquisitions at Compass in a prepared statement. “Our team worked closely with the County to make a series of revisions to our plan to ensure that those environmental concerns are all addressed, and I see this as a model for how data centers companies, counties and residents can work together on these complex projects so everyone's needs are met.”
