NEW YORK CITY—The Gay Men's Health Crisis will relocate its headquarters to 307 W. 38th St., between Eighth and Ninth avenues. The move, which will occur by July 1, will accommodate expanding services, and increase accessibility to its more than 12,000 annual clients.
GMHC's current office at 446 W. 33rd St., also known as 5 Manhattan West, is slightly farther west, between Ninth and Tenth avenues. The organization has been there since 2010, when it subleased the space from WNET. Savills Studley represented GMHC in its relocation; the new lease is for 30 years.
The new location will be closer to several major transportation hubs: the Times Square subway station, the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Penn Station.
The 110,000-square-foot space in the building owned by George Comfort & Sons will span six floors. GMHC will continue to provide HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention services, education programs, research and advocacy.
GMHC's move will accommodate space for the majority of the staff, client dining and living rooms, workforce development programs, substance use and mental health services, and administrative operations. The headquarters will be flexible to allow for future growth, according to GMHC.
The new location will also continue serving clients hot lunches four days a week and dinner on Friday evenings. It will also operate the Keith Haring Food Pantry Program. GMHC's David Geffen Center for HIV Prevention and Health Education, whose staff in 2016 administered more than 4,300 HIV tests, will remain at 224 W. 29th St.
