The new president has history of successfully building and expanding offices in commercial real estate, was the chief architect behind the expansion of Lee & Associates' San Diego Carlsbad office

ATLANTA—David E. Howard, a 30-plus year veteran in commercial real estate and former president of Lee & Associates—North San Diego County, has been named president of the Charleston, SC office of Lee & Associates.

Howard, who has a history of building and expanding offices in commercial real estate, was the chief architect behind the expansion of Lee & Associates' San Diego Carlsbad office. Carlsbad is one of the firm's most profitable offices throughout San Diego and the nation.

“As president of the Carlsbad office, Dave was instrumental in building and expanding his office on both transactional activity and agent growth,” says Lee & Associates CEO Jeffrey Rinkov, noting that this will be a new position for the Charleston office. “I have no doubt he will be equally successful in Charleston as he begins his new duties there.”

Howard, who served on Lee & Associate's Corporate Board of Directors from 2011-2014, was president of the Carlsbad office from 2010 to 2018. Prior to joining Lee & Associates in 2005, he was the founder and CEO of Resource Commercial Real Estate, a tenant representation commercial real estate company with headquarters in Irvine, CA. He grew the office from one person into six offices and 62 agents over a 10-year period.

“With so many national companies moving operations and distribution facilities to the Southeast, I wanted to be able to help Lee & Associates continue to increase business and revenue,” Howard says. Prior to forming RCRE, Howard was with the tenant advisory group of CBRE, where he was involved with corporate clients throughout the US such as Frontier Communications, American Express, Volvo, Bergen Brunswig, and Fluor Corporation.

Other management positions Howard was involved with included director of Real Estate for TRW Information Services “Experian,” where he was actively involved in lease negotiations, site selections and construction management of approximately 5.5 million square feet throughout the United States. And as a real estate manager for Macy's department stores where he was responsible for the selection of new store sites in the Southwestern United States, he oversaw the daily operation of the Macy's 500,000 square-foot office headquarters complex in Downtown Los Angeles.

Howard, who is a member of numerous organizations including, International Council of Shopping Centers and NAIOP, where he was a former board of directors member in the San Diego Chapter, was named in 2016 and 2017 as one of the most influential leaders in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal.

Howard was recognized in 2015 by Lee & Associates for his leadership role, with his office also receiving an award for “Top Office with Deals Completed.” He has both a RPA and FMA designation from the Building Owners & Management Association (BOMA) along with being named multiple times by Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) for Who's Who in commercial real estate. Howard attended Cal State Fullerton and proudly served in the US Coast Guard.
