Surging Milwaukee Brings in New Hotels
The city's downtown is surging, creating demand for several new hotels.
MILWAUKEE—This city’s downtown is just one of many in the Midwest that has undergone a revival, and along with new residences and amenities, it’s also getting new hotels. Murphy Development Group just closed on a deal to develop a Cambria Hotels & Suites in downtown Milwaukee, marking the beginning of MDG’s newest hotel project. The hotel will be a 132-key, four-story building featuring 77 King units, 51 Double Queen units, and four suites. part of Choice Hotels’ brand portfolio.
M+A Design’s Stan Ramaker and Consolidated Construction Co. are the architect and general contractor on the project, respectively. Cambria Hotels & Suites are part of Choice Hotels’ brand portfolio.
“We’re excited to contribute to Milwaukee’s rapid growth with the addition of the Cambria hotel,” says MDG’s John T. Murphy. “This development also represents Choice Hotels’ expansion and advancement of the Cambria Hotels & Suites brand, as this is the first of its kind in the Milwaukee area, and Choice Hotels’ only hotel in downtown Milwaukee.”
The total cost of the project is $22 million, and the property will include a first-floor pool and fitness center, hotel bar and meeting room, and an interior courtyard. The Cambria hotel is one of many being built across the downtown Milwaukee area.
The project is MDG’s second Cambria development, the first of which is located in downtown Chicago’s theater district. Construction for the new hotel is slated to begin in June 2018, delivering in summer of 2019.
