Tech and Data Strategist Adrian Mercado Joins B6 as CIO
Paul Massey’s new real estate brokerage has hired a former Cushman & Wakefield managing research director with years of real estate data and tech experience.
NEW YORK CITY—Real estate industry leader Paul J. Massey, Jr. had listed technology as a distinguishing pillar of B6 Real Estate Advisors, at the very start when he launched his brokerage firm in July. On Friday, he announced the appointment of Adrian Mercado as partner and chief information officer. Mercado will lead the development of B6’s proprietary technology platform and overall data and information strategy tools and usage.
Mercado comes from Alero Advisors, a commercial real estate data and technology consultancy, where he was a partner. Prior to that position, he served as the head of product for Urbint, a data intelligence company that assisted cities in using machine learning to become more resilient.
Mercado will be another familiar face at his new job. He was the managing director of research at Cushman & Wakefield. As VP of research at Massey Knakal Realty Services, he worked closely with Massey.
“Technology is at the very core of what we do at B6,” says Massey. “Adrian’s sharp grasp of the nuances of commercial real estate data and his passion for technological innovation are invaluable to us as we continue to build B6 into a technology-forward brokerage. Adrian will play an indispensable role in developing a proprietary platform that will allow us to dominate the investment sales and capital advisory markets like never before.”
PropTech is becoming an essential part of real estate advisory services. At Thursday’s CREtech New York Venture Conference, which had over 1,000 attendees, landlords expressed support for the idea that technology should help increase their efficiency. Brookfield’s global head of corporate development agreed with that notion, saying they want technology that makes the basic processes such as leasing, managing capital projects, and underwriting investment deals more efficiently performed.
As chief information officer at B6, Mercado will oversee the development and operation of the firm’s custom technology platform. The firm states the technology is designed to streamline internal processes to help brokers work more effectively and efficiently in client services. Mercado will lead the design, implementation and socializing of B6’s data and insights strategy to support the firm’s originators.
“I’m excited to partner with Paul Massey once again as we are building a next generation, tech-forward brokerage that strategically uses data-driven insights,” says Mercado. He states the technology will provide transparency to the marketplace and reliable insights to clients. He adds that he’ll be developing “a nimble, user-friendly ecosystem that will allow our brokers to seamlessly automate day-to-day tasks in order to free them up to focus on more value-added activities.”
Mercado earned a BA in political science and Latin American studies from the University of Connecticut. He is involved in MetaProp NYC as a mentor.
