NEW YORK CITY—In the Chinese zodiac, 2019 marks the Year of the Pig, an animal in China which symbolizes wealth. The Asian Real Estate Association of America's Manhattan Chapter shared an abundance of good will at their annual celebration of the Asian New Year. The event was held on Jan. 29 at Macao Trading Company, a trendy, Tribeca restaurant.

Dorian Lam, EVP at Cornerstone, returned as the association's president. AREAA emphasizes that people do not need to be Asian or Asian American to join. Many in the real estate industry who appreciate different Asian cultures or have an interest in business in the region or with the Asian American community are active members.

Lam tells Globest.com that this year their initiatives will focus on advocacy, networking and developing talent. He says the group represents a wide variety of businesses and professions and covers a broad spectrum of experience levels.

"AREAA makes it easier to engage with the Asian community," says Lam. He notes the association is rising in importance and relevance with the growing demographics and increased participation in real estate of Asians and Asian Americans in the US.

At the event AREAA Manhattan's board of directors was installed for the new year. In addition to Lam, returning board members include Gregg Christensen, Stewart Title; Rachel Kwong, Douglas Elliman; Lisa Liu, Warshaw Burstein; Charles Han, Newmark Knight Frank; Clifford Katz, Platzer, Swergold, Levine, Goldberg, Katz & Haslow; and Wilson Ting, Besen & Associates.

The ceremony also swore in new board members, Ronald Chua, China Overseas America; Eric Ip, HSBC; Patrick Li, TH Real Estate; Sangmi Park, Douglas Elliman; Arthur Rosenfield, Red Apple Group; Robert Shandley, BGH Rand Realty; Kitty Yen, Bank of America; and Christina Ying, Herrick Feinstein
