Tanya Austin, project manager of project and development services at JLL, likes to separate work and leisure and urges others to do the same, noting that once the work day is over, it is over. “I try to focus my mind on zen-like things.”

Austin is one of the many strong women at JLL and in the CRE industry. She specializes in hotel renovations, adaptive re-use, and tenant improvement projects. Her role at JLL involves the development of scope, coordination of all project activities including budget and schedule management, bidding and negotiation, construction management, reporting and oversight of FF&E procurement.

For JLL's Liz Newcomer, marketing manager of the Phoenix Market for JLL, she attributes her life balance to her husband, saying he is “the one to ground me and always remind me to take moments for myself or for us.” She adds that he's constantly encouraging her to find time to relax or do things to clear her mind so she is not always in work mode.

And according to Newcomer, who oversees all marketing operations in the Phoenix market from property marketing to new business development to enhancing or promoting the JLL brand, success can and should be measured in a variety of ways at work, depending on the project or the goal. “In some cases, success is teaching others to do something themselves,” she says. “In other cases, it's proving that marketing contributed to winning business. At the end of the day, I measure success by a feeling. Do I feel like what I am doing is truly making a difference to the organization and the people around me? Hopefully, the answer is yes.”

When asked how Austin measures success, she says it is “being able to do what you love and accomplishing your goals while being a reliable and true person.” She adds that she loves feeling that she has accomplished something and have made a positive impact in some shape or form. “Success is being happy overall.”

Check back with GlobeSt.com for much more in the coming weeks from these women and others in the industry, who talk about what they would tell young women who want to succeed in the workplace, who the biggest influence is in their life and more.
