NEW YORK CITY—Douglas Heitner has joined iStar as the chief legal officer, effective as of March 11, 2019. He is replacing Nina Matis, who is retiring from her positions of vice chairman and chief legal officer. Matis who has worked at the firm for more than 20 years will remain with the company's executive team to ensure a smooth transition.
A publicly traded company, iStar is a real estate investment trust that focuses on the ground lease sector. It has completed more than $40 billion worth of transactions in the last two decades according to its website.
Heitner will report to Jay Sugarman, iStar's chairman and CEO.
Prior to his new position, Heitner was a partner at Kasowitz Benson Torres in the real estate transactions group. Previously, he worked as an associate in Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom's real estate practice.
He received his JD from New York University School of Law and his BA from Dartmouth College.
