Global Law Firm Linklaters Moves to 1290 Sixth Ave.
The law firm will be relocating to 90,000 square feet at Vornado’s Midtown tower in 2020.
NEW YORK CITY—Founded in 1838, Linklaters is relocating its New York office to Vornado Realty Trust’s 1290 Sixth Ave. With 30 offices in 20 countries, it has approximately 2,300 attorneys, according to Legal Week UK, another publication of ALM Media Group, the parent company of GlobeSt.com. Linklaters is known as one of London’s Magic Circle firms, a reference to five leading UK-headquartered law firms.
Crain’s first reported the news of the move. The business news outlet referenced a source stating Linklaters signed a 15-year lease with asking rent at $89 per square foot.
A unnamed source with knowledge of the deal told GlobeSt.com that the New York office of the firm is moving into 90,000 square feet, the entire 31st through 33rd floors and part of the 34th floor in 2020. The source indicated Linklaters was represented by JLL’s Ken Siegel and Lisa Kiell, and Vornado was represented in-house by Ed Riguardi and Ryan Levy along with a Cushman & Wakefield team led by Josh Kuriloff. Other tenants in the building include global asset manager Neuberger Berman, brokerage Cushman & Wakefield, and law firm Bryan Cave.
Staying in Midtown, Linklaters is currently at 1345 Sixth Ave., between W. 54th and W. 55th streets. Its new office are on Sixth Ave. between W. 51st and W. 52nd streets.
Known as the AXA Financial Center, the 43-story, 1.9 million square foot building was constructed in 1963 according to Real Capital Analytics. It also houses the New York corporate office of the Paris-based multinational insurance firm AXA.
