MIAMI—Non-profit healthcare provider Baptist Health South Florida has formed a joint venture with Houston-based Belmont Village Senior Living to develop senior living communities in South Florida.

The venture has announced that its first project will be in Coral Gables at 250 Bird Road, bounded by Aurora Street, Altara Avenue and Salzedo Street. Construction on the project is expected to start in mid-2020 and to be complete within two years of the start of construction.

“Our aim with this partnership is nothing short of reinventing wellness and quality of life for seniors in South Florida,” says Patricia Will, Belmont Village Founder and CEO. “Thanks to the richness of experience each team brings, we have the potential to change the paradigm for lifestyle and care for the extraordinary elderly population in this region.”

The joint venture's initial focus will be on developing senior living communities in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties.

“At Baptist Health, we have a deep commitment to serve the South Florida community,” says Brian E. Keeley, president and CEO for Baptist Health South Florida. “Partnering with Belmont Village is a natural fit as both our organizations share the same dedication to providing high-quality compassionate care.

Belmont Village will manage the development and operation of Belmont Village Coral Gables, which will offer independent living, assisted living and memory care services.

The Coral Gables project, Belmont Village's first with Baptist Health South Florida, will be its second community in the region. Belmont Village Fort Lauderdale is currently under construction at 1031 Seminole Drive and projected to open this fall.

No further development details, including cost of the Coral Gables project, were released.

Baptist Health South Florida is the largest healthcare organization in the region, with 10 hospitals (Baptist Hospital, Baptist Children's Hospital, Bethesda Hospital East, Bethesda Hospital West, Doctors Hospital, Fishermen's Community Hospital, Homestead Hospital, Mariners Hospital, South Miami Hospital and West Kendall Baptist Hospital), more than 40 physician practices, 50 outpatient and urgent care facilities, Baptist Health Medical Group, Baptist Health Quality Network and internationally renowned centers of excellence spanning across Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Belmont Village's project in Fort Lauderdale also reached a key construction milestone last week with the “topping out” of the building. Stiles Construction, the project's general contractor, completed the concrete high-rise structure with the final roof placement. At peak, there have been around 250 workers in this phase.  The topping-out, which marks the mid-way point of a construction project—was celebrated on Thursday, March 14, with an on-site event for subcontractors and special guests.

Designed by Huitt-Zollars, the 12-story building totals approximately 212,000 square-feet. Construction began in May 2018.

The first four levels of the building contain a parking garage with approximately 210 spaces. The following eight stories will house 204 private apartments for independent living, assisted living and memory care. Expansive common areas and amenities will include a great room, library and town hall for meetings and lectures.

The project is Belmont Village's 31st community with 29 currently operating across seven states and Mexico City, and one under construction in Chicago.
