CHICAGO—City and company officials announced last week that 3D Hubs' new North American headquarters will be located at the mHUB building here in the West Town section of the city. The firm reportedly had also considered Boston and Minneapolis as possible headquarters locations.
The firm, which received $18 million in new funding earlier this year, reports that it plans to centralize its US-based workforce in Chicago at the mHUB building at 965 W. Chicago Ave. The Amsterdam-based automated manufacturing firm intends to double its headquarters team by the end of this year, city officials stated. 3D Hubs will open its Chicago office in June.
“3D Hubs joins the long list of international companies choosing Chicago for their future,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “With our growing tech economy and strong digital manufacturing community, Chicago is the perfect home for this innovative company. I look forward to seeing 3D Hubs success in Chicago in the years to come.”
The company was also considering Minneapolis and Boston for its North American headquarters, according to a report in 3DPrint.com.
Filemon Schoffer, CCO and co-founder of 3D Hubs, said of its selection of Chicago as its North American headquarters location, “During our visits to the US, it became clear that Chicago is set to be the center of innovation for digital manufacturing, with strategic initiatives such as MxD and mHUB. 3D Hubs can help accelerate this transition to digital manufacturing, bringing new business to local factories. So, our decision to base ourselves in Chicago was a relatively easy one and we are looking forward to working together with the local community.”
Launched in 2016, mHUB's member companies generated more than $48.5 million in revenue, raised more than $100 million in funding, hired more than 780 employees and launched more than 640 products.
“The manufacturing industry in this region is fiercely dedicated to innovation, which is why Chicago is leading the charge in the next industrial revolution,” said Haven Allen, CEO and co-founder of mHUB. “3D Hubs is a dynamic addition to this ecosystem and we are looking forward to supporting their growth.”
“Chicago has long been a central hub of American manufacturing and continues to lead the way in innovation. During our visit, we were impressed by the number of initiatives focused on advanced manufacturing automation. This hard-working, forward-looking city is the perfect place for 3D Hubs to grow our on-demand manufacturing platform,” said Bram de Zwart, CEO and co-founder of 3D Hubs.
Founded in 2013, 3D Hubs uses advanced algorithms to increase the speed, improve the quality and reduce the cost of manufacturing custom parts. More than 20,000 businesses worldwide from diverse industries, including aerospace, aviation, energy, healthcare and robotics are using 3D Hubs.
