Washington, DC—Locally-based Melina Cordero has been named as head of CBRE’s retail capital markets business for the Americas. Her promotion will be effective July 1, 2019.

Cordero, who is being promoted to managing director of Capital Markets, will lead the company’s Capital Markets’ team of more than 130 retail professionals who specialize in the sale, debt and structured finance placement assistance, and recapitalization of retail properties in the Americas.

Cordero most recently held the position of global head of Retail Research at CBRE. In her new role she will report to Chris Ludeman, global president of Capital Markets.

Cordero’s “views of the future of retail are highly sought after by retailers and investors alike and have enabled us to drive better business outcomes for our clients,” Ludeman said in prepared remarks.

Prior to joining CBRE in 2016, Cordero’s retail experience included serving as Director of Analytics for Path Intelligence, a UK-based data and customer-analytics technology firm. In this role,she oversaw the creation of the company’s North American division, working with a large portfolio of retail clients across the continent. Prior to this, Cordero worked as a Global Industry Analyst tracking the retail and consumer-goods industries at Euromonitor International in London, and worked in urban planning and business policy research at the UK Parliament.

She holds dual Master of Science degrees in Urban Planning and International Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science and Sciences-Po Paris. She also holds a B.A. from Yale University.
