NEW YORK CITY—The Real Estate Board of New York honored brokers at its 21st Annual Retail Deal of the Year Awards cocktail party at Convene on Tuesday night.

REBNY President John H. Banks describes the deals as demonstrating the importance of innovative brick-and-mortar spaces in the constantly evolving retail market. “The award winners have demonstrated effective navigation of opportunities in the retail sector while positively contributing to the life and growth of New York businesses,” says Banks.

REBNY presented the Most Significant Retail Deal of the Year to Newmark Knight Frank’s Jeffrey D. Roseman and Ross Kaplan for representing the building owner Fosun at 28 Liberty St. in their 40,000-square-foot lease to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. The dine-in movie theater plans to open its 12-screen multiplex at the Financial District property in late 2019.

The deal was titled “Remember the Alamo: How a Movie Theater Lease Unlocked 200,000 SF of Retail Space Downtown at 28 Liberty.” Newmark Knight Frank’s Ross Kaplan and Jeffrey D. Roseman took home the prize for this award.

It was Jeffrey Roseman’s fifth time winning a REBNY Retail Deal of the Year Award and Ross Kaplan’s first.

The Most Ingenious Retail Deal of the Year had the title “Deal of a Life Time: One Wall Street.” The winners were Dartmouth Company’s Joe Mastromonaco and Fritz Kemerling who represented Time Life Fitness and Newmark RKF’s Peter Whitenack, Jackie Totolo and Scott Zinovoy who represented Maclowe Properties. The luxury athletic company signed a 74,000-square-foot lease at Maclowe Properties’ 1 Wall St., to open its second Manhattan location.
