New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy says the new jobs were the direct result of his trip to India.
MUMBIA, INDIA—New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on an overseas trip to India, reports that agreements secured on the junket have yielded approximately 1,250 new jobs for the Garden State.
On Thursday, the governor reported that three India-based firms with operations in New Jersey have agreed to expand their presence in their respective Edison, NJ operations.
The largest deal was with Mumbai-based information technology firm Tata Consultancy Services, which will expand its workforce by approximately 700 jobs, bringing its New Jersey workforce to roughly 4,700 employees.
Larsen & Toubro will add approximately 400 jobs, boosting its Edison workforce to about 1,000 workers.
Birlasoft, part of the New Delhi-based conglomerate CK Birla Group, will add an additional 160 jobs.
Gov. Murphy said the new jobs are a direct result of the India trip and the face-to-face meetings he's conducted there. He stressed that the companies have decided to increase their presence in New Jersey based solely on the value the state provides and without any tax incentives.
"We're thrilled that these companies have recognized New Jersey's value and have chosen to expand their existing operations in our state," said Gov. Murphy. "These good, high-paying technology jobs are exactly the kind we want to continue to bring to New Jersey as we seek to reclaim our spot atop the innovation economy."
The governor's seven-day visit has included trips to six cities totaling more than 50 meetings and public events with businesses that he expressed hope would establish or expand their presence in New Jersey.
