The Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate, within the University of San Diego School of Business, has announced a generous gift for its Campaign for 2020 at the Breakfast at the BMC Lecture Series. At the annual event, USD president James T. Harris III announced that Malin Burnham, founder of Burnham Foundation, and his wife Roberta would make a $2.3 million donation to support real estate scholarships and faculty. The annual Breakfast at the BMC Lecture Series hosted 300 real estate professionals on the university campus. This year, the event was themed The Real Estate Entrepreneurs Journey, focusing on the path to entrepreneurship along with stories of successes and challenges. Panelists included Marc Brutten, chairman of Westcore Properties; Greg Fowler, founder of FPA Multifamily; Mark Gleiberman, president and founder of MG Properties Group; and Alex Zikakis, president of Capstone Advisors, and was moderated by Stath Karras, executive director of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate. The funds will help the center achieve its mission as well as fund scholarship endowments to attract the top-tier real estate students to USD and to enhance the ability to recruit and retain the nation's top faculty in real estate. As a result, of Burnham's donation, the campaign has raised a total of $3.4 million. "I don't want to predict, but I can imagine that the student body will grow to be double, and I think that is the obligation that this school has," Burnham said at the event, announcing the gift. "That is the reason why Roberta and I stepped up to the plate and made this gift. Hopefully, others will follow. I have to admit that this is one of the most satisfying relationships that I have, which now goes back just over 25 years when the school started. I hope to be here for many more years to help and thank and push a little bit."
