How Today’s Digital Revolution Is Reshaping CRE
During CCIM Institute’s annual global conference, Aeronyde’s Trevor Rango opened the event by talking drone data, flying cars and other new technologies that are changing the industry paradigms.
SAN DIEGO—CCIM designees and other top real estate professionals came together Monday morning for the CCIM Global Conference, the international commercial real estate event for trading ideas that help shape the future of the industry. This year’s conference focused on building your business and provide practical education and professional connections.
Opening the event was Aeronyde’s Trevor Ragno, who talked flying cars and drone data among other things.
According to Ragno, today’s digital revolution is reshaping commercial real estate. He talked about the many global challenges facing our infrastructure today—pointing to things like population increase, transportation increase and infrastructure spending increases, among other things.
His firm takes existing aerial intelligence capabilities and develops, validates and deploys UAV programs in order to scale with minimal growing pains. “He encouraged the audience to talk about a place where you could automate your inspections, increase personal safety and reduce monitoring costs.”
He talked about how drones are being used in commercial real estate “a lot more than you might know. Drone data gives you the ability to monitor your investment better than ever before.”
He added that drone data allows you to also create better investment decisions.
He then said that flying cars isn’t as far off as one might think and is a real possibility. “We should expect flying taxis over L.A. soon,” he said, noting that they will be cheaper than Uber.
Why does that matter for the commercial real estate audience? According to Ragno, “In our role as owners and investors of commercial real estate, we have to think about building on a 40-or so-year time scale,” he said. “If your goal is to maintain demand throughout the usable life of your building it has to be functionally opalescent.”
He encouraged the audience to adapt to modular construction. “Be sure your elevator goes all the way to the roof and take advantage of the trends.”
