The New York Botanical Garden, a designated national landmark botanical garden located in the Bronx, New York City.

NEW YORK CITY- The New York Botanical Garden has partnered with Douglas Development to construct a two-building, 450-unit affordable housing development for seniors and families. The property will sit on New York Botanical Garden-owned land for which Douglaston entered into a 99-year lease through a competitive selection process.

Construction on the two-phase project is anticipated to begin this year. The first phase will include an estimated 188-units of affordable housing at 2856 Webster Ave., available for candidates earning up to 50 percent of the area median income. The second phase of construction will include approximately 260 affordable rental units at 410 Bedford Park, available to candidates earning between 30 to 130 percent of the area median income.

The two developments will have access to on-site social services through the Fordham Bedford Community Services. Each building will have a Cherry Valley grocery store, spanning approximately 20,000 square feet.

"Douglaston is thrilled to begin a new partnership with The New York Botanical Garden on this community-driven development," said Jeffrey Levine, founder and chairman of Douglaston Development, said in a prepared statement. "We are looking forward to continuing to expand upon our Bronx footprint through a project that will not only bring more affordable housing options to the area but additional benefits to the greater community."
