C&W, Matterport Partnership Yields Life-Like Showings With 3D 'Digital Twin' Technology
A Matterport cameraman uses special cameras to "scan" a commercial real estate listing, which results in a "3D digital twin" of the property.
Showing they’re adapting to COVID-19′s new model of business, a leading multinational real estate services firm has announced a technology partnership to launch robust virtual showings for commercial property listings.
Cushman & Wakefield entered into a global agreement with Matterport, a spacial data capture company, so that it can scan commercial properties into a 3D rendering for virtual marketing.
“This collaboration is a textbook example of how we’re moving the real estate process forward for property owners and users enabling our professionals to deliver exceptional service to our clients through a virtual solution that is imperative in the current environment,” according to prepared remarks by Adam Stanley, Cushman & Wakefield’s chief information officer and chief digital officer.
Here’s how it will work. The real estate professionals and Cushman & Wakefield will be able to schedule a Matterport cameraman to use special cameras to “scan” a commercial real estate listing. The end result is a “3D digital twin” of the property, and the real estate professional can send out this virtual tour on websites, listings, emails and social media.
It increases the number of potential buyers who “walk through” a property listing. The 3D virtual tour would allow a client from nearly anywhere in the world to tour the listing, as though they were there. The 3D rendering allows buyers to understand the scope of the property, and even digitally measure rooms, floors, ceilings and furniture. They’ll know if the space fits their needs.

Matterport CEO RJ Pittman said in a statement that Matterport has “capture technicians” in 375 cities in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
He said, “Cushman & Wakefield can use Matterport to enhance their services by increasing efficiency and utilization across a global portfolio of properties.”
