JERICHO, NY—Food retailer Nathan's Famous has partnered with REEF Technologies, a provider of neighborhood kitchen and logistics hubs, to expand in Manhattan and ultimately REEF is a national network of 70 plus neighborhood kitchens across 18 cities that allows food entrepreneurs, local restaurants, and national restaurant brands to run delivery businesses.
According to James Walker, SVP of Restaurants with Nathan's Famous, the company will first expand its reach in its home city of Manhattan and then look at future markets in Miami, Los Angeles, Portland and Minneapolis in the coming months.
While restaurants, especially those that focus on indoor dining, continue to struggle during the pandemic, nimble operations such as take-out and delivery are doing well and investment is flowing into these technologies.
Last week New York-based Zuul announced that it secured $9 million that it will use to expand its operation of ghost kitchens throughout the city. The company provides kitchen space and logistical support to existing restaurant brands seeking to expand their capacity to provide food-for-delivery.
Zuul currently operates from its flagship location at 30 Vandam Street in New York City and services brands that deliver to residential and commercial customers in downtown Manhattan.
