Construction Begins on National Landing Multifamily Towers
JBG Smith has commenced construction on the mixed-use towers, which will comprise 808 multifamily units and 40,000 SF of street-level retail.
ARLINGTON, VA – JBG Smith has commenced construction on two residential towers at National Landing in Arlington, VA.
Located at 1900 Crystal Dr., the mixed-use development will comprise 808 multifamily units and 40,000 square feet of street-level retail, once complete. The 27-story southern tower will offer 471 apartment units and the 26-story northern tower will offer 337 apartments.
Designed by architect, COOKFOX, in collaboration with Torti Gallas + Partners, the development will feature a private rooftop, green spaces and a new pedestrian-friendly street, which will connect 18th and 20th streets.
For the development, JBG Smith is additionally implementing neighborhood-oriented improvements that will benefit the entire community, such as enhanced streetscapes, a grand staircase connecting to public open space and public bike facilities.
JBG Smith previously bid and secured a guaranteed maximum price contract for the project that is more than 7.5% below pre-pandemic pricing.
“The start of construction on 1900 Crystal Drive marks yet another major milestone in National Landing’s ongoing transformation,” says Anthony Greenberg, EVP of development at JBG Smith. “The introduction of new residences, restaurants and shops at 1900 Crystal Drive, combined with our recently delivered retail and entertainment district just about a block away will more than double the concentration of street-facing retail amenities on Crystal Drive. The thriving, mixed-use environment will allow people to easily walk from their home or office to their favorite restaurants and amenities – cementing National Landing as a destination both day and night.”
JBG Smith was secured as the developer, leasing agent and property manager for the National Landing project in 2018, once Amazon selected the space for its new headquarters. Amazon is expected to hire 38,000 or more employees in National Landing and is currently occupying space at numerous commercial assets, owned by JBG Smith.
